Hearing Batteries
The most common type of hearing battery is the zinc-air
battery. These batteries are used because they are cheap and small.
They usually only last a few weeks at most so you will have to change
them often.
The batteries come with a tab that keeps them from being exposed to
air; when this tab is removed the battery is allowed contact with the
air, which begins the chemical reaction which provides the power. Once
the tab is removed, these hearing batteries start to drain and replacing
the tab will not stop the process, so you should only remove the tab
when you are ready to use the battery.
Generally batteries don’t last more than a few weeks so you will
be replacing them often – zinc-air hearing batteries can be safely
disposed of in your trash, however. If the design of your hearing aid
permits it, it’s usually easier to keep the activation tab on
the battery to give you a better grip on it – after it has been
placed in the slot the tab can be removed.
