Hearing Aids FAQs

How do I know if I need a hearing aid?

Your doctor can recommend you to an audiologist, or otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist) who will be able to perform tests that will determine if you have any significant hearing loss. If you do have hearing loss, he or she will be able to discuss your options with you.

Are there any advantages to having a digital hearing aid?

Digital hearing aids can allow for signal processing that wouldn’t fit in an analog aid, allowing for feedback reduction and noise reduction as well as flexibility in programming the device to match your needs. However, just because it is digital does not necessarily mean it is better – digital sound is not inherently better than analog and many low budget digital devices sacrifice quality for cost, so research the device you’re interested in before purchasing.

How do I stop my hearing aid from whistling?

Feedback problems often indicate that the hearing aid does not fit properly – it can also indicate a build-up of ear wax inside the canal. Either way, talk to your audiologist about either changing the fit of your aids or getting your ears cleaned out.
